-
Managed technical requirements of projects
I have managed two large projects in the year that I have spent with Systems Support. Both projects involved configuring a Mac OS X Server and over twenty Macs. The equipment had to be configured correctly, on-time and provide all the necessary facilities requested by the customer.
-
Provided technical support to a variety of customers
During my time with Systems Support I have provided technical support both internally and to customers over the phone and via email. Issues I have fixed included everything from site-wide lack of internet connectivity to QuarkXpress not launching.
-
Trained new staff
Since acquiring my ACTC I have been asked to train other members of staff in the techniques involved with troubleshooting and supporting OS X. I have also taught colleagues techniques for dealing with difficult customers and offering the best level of service possible.
-
Completed training requirements
As part of my employment I have completed Apple Sales Training and a 10.4 and 10.5 Apple Certified Technical Coordinator course passing both exams by approximately 94%
ICT Asset Analyst — Siemens IT Solutions & ServicesOctober 2006 – September 2007
-
Managed allocation of equipment to over one thousand users
As part of my responsibility at SISS I was required to implement a PC-based asset tracking system to allocate loan equipment to civil servants in the National Assembly of Wales. This required good organisational skills as well as an in-depth understanding of Microsoft Office.
-
Developed asset tracking prototype
The asset management process was informal on my arrival at SISS but formalising the system was a priority of my line manager. While senior management planned a company-wide asset tracking system I was asked to produce a prototype to illustrate what could be done using technology. The system was written in Visual Basic over the course of three weeks and was able to update an SQL database with all asset information.
-
Offered face-to-face support
As the team were regularly approached directly by customers as well as via telephone and email I provided a friendly, professional service to customers throughout the National Assembly for Wales. I had to be efficient and punctual as well as patient. I also needed to support the installation and setup of the loan equipment.
Admin Assistant — Wales & West UtiltiesSeptember 2005 – October 2006
-
Developed scanning process
Upon my arrival at Wales & West Utilities the company was updating their SAP CRM system in order to improve efficiency and the quality of service offered to customers by storing all submitted information on computer. I developed the process for saving all information in to SAP CRM.
-
Trained staff in use of scanning system
Prior to developing the scanning process I trained over twenty members of staff in the use of the scanning software. Once I had designed the scanning workflow, developed the file structure and formal process of uploading information I trained five other members of staff in the use of the system.
-
Supervised scanning team
After training staff I was responsible for supervising the scanning team. As all information had to pass through my team I had to ensure work was carried our efficiently and accurately as the entire company were looking to my team to improve the service we provided our customers.

I maintain a blog at http://theonlyjames.com with some of my thoughts on technology and other techno-geekery. I played the drums for four years before leaving home and now dedicate most of my spare time to socialising with friends, learning about new technology and keeping up to date on Apple and Google products. I am an avid music fan never far from my Mac and iPhone.
